Adwords and Adsense - Different?

As everyone knows, Google is the dominant player in the field of online advertising. Google's AdWords and AdSense programs have proven to be advertising powerhouse programs which have helped to propel millions of businesses worldwide to growth which was not possible prior to Google's implementation of them. What is the difference between them?

AdWords is a program designed for the internet marketer who is interested in generating traffic to his site, and AdSense is for the internet publisher who is interested in making money by selling advertising space of his website.

AdWords is a great program because it allows the advertiser to fully customize his campaign and choose options like which countries, languages, markets, time of day, etc. for when his ad will be displayed. The benefit to the publisher who is allowing the space on his website is that he gets a share of the money that was paid to Google for the campaign.

Google is very interested in protecting others from unscrupulous marketers as well as protecting its reputation. They are very picky as a result of this, and have a lot of rules and regulations regarding how advertisers use its programs. Before you begin setting up a campaign, make sure that you are familiar with what Google will and will not allow because if you break those rules, Google will ban you from using both AdSense and AdWords. Additionally, it's important to understand the rules because the better that you work with Google, the more successful that your campaign is going to be.

As I mentioned earlier, one of the great things about AdWords is that it is so customizable. One of the customizations is that you can buy keywords. You can bid on certain words and/or phrases, and the amount that you pay per click will help to determine where on the screen your ad appears as well as how often it will appear. So if you are selling information about learning to play the guitar, then you might bid on keywords like "learn guitar", "guitar lessons", "play guitar", etc. After you have gotten your campaign started, AdWords will locate websites that will display your ad based on the keywords that you have selected. If you have written an enticing enough ad, then people who visit that website will see it, and will click on it in order to view your offer.

AdWords is a great program for providing traffic to your website, but once the traffic is at your site, it is going to be up to you to make sure that you have a good sales page which immediately convinces them to buy your high quality product or service.
